KNITTING PATTERN: Birchwood Beanie, Easy Hat Knitting Pattern for Bulky Weight Yarn

This easy knit hat pattern for bulky yarn is named for the little town across the lake from where I live. I've updated my original Birchwood Beanie pattern (available for purchase separately) that was originally written for worsted/aran weight yarn to be a super quick knit for bulky/chunky yarn! This hat features a clean decrease that looks nice with and without a pom pom. Please note this listing is for BULKY yarn, and the aran/worsted pattern is available for purchase separately.

This hat knitting pattern includes instructions for two types of bulky weight yarn. The first version works well with a standard plied bulky yarn and includes a cozy folded brim. The second version is written specifically for hand- dyed single ply chunky yarn. This yarn often comes in a 100g/76 yard skein of merino wool. If you can’t find hand-dyed yarn, Baah Sequoia, Madeline Tosh A.S.A.P. are good substitutes. All versions are likely a one skein project.

MATERIALS NEEDED
Single-Ply Chunky/Bulky version:
- US size 11 • 8 mm 16" circular needles
- 76 yards single ply chunky/bulky yarn
- Yarn pictured by Bella Vista Knits

Bulky version:
- US size 10.5 • 6.5 mm 16" circular needles
- 102 yards bulky weight yarn
- Yarn pictured by Bella Vista Knits

Adult, but includes basic instructions on how to modify size

To knit this pattern, you'll need to be familiar with knit and purl stitches, knitting in the round, K2TOG & SSK decreases. Includes link to video tutorial for the crown shaping. This pattern is knitted in the round, from bottom up.

This pattern does not include the original Birchwood Beanie pattern for worsted/aran weight. That pattern can be purchased separately.
